Joe Biden Has ‘Evolved’ On Abortion During His 5 Decades In Public Life–He’s Now Pro-Choice ‘Under Any Circumstance’

From self-proclaimed “pro-life Democrat” to abortion extremist.

Former Vice President Joe Biden’s decades in office has opened him up to some rather uncomfortable scrutiny–if only the Media(D) would report it.

In the new “cancel culture” era of 2020, where statues of great men can come down because they didn’t hold the same societal standards that we have today, the things that you said decades ago must also be judged.

This includes Joe Biden, who has spent decade upon decade as an elected official.

Biden, who was the first Catholic Vice President of the United States, has certainly changed his views on abortion over the years.

Catholic Bishops in the U.S. have publicly corrected Biden for breaking with Catholic doctrine on more than one occasion. He was even denied communion in October 2019 for being “outside of church teaching” on abortion.

The man who was sworn in as a Senator from Delaware in 1973–the same year that Roe v. Wade was decided–has “evolved” on abortion. He’s gone from being a self-proclaimed “pro-life Democrat” to supporting abortion for “any circumstance.”

Here’s what Biden’s “evolving” convictions on abortion have been over the years:

1973–he said that Roe v. Wade had “gone too far.”

1974–he said that a woman shouldn’t have the “sole right to say what should happen to her body.”

1977–voted against a compromise bill that would allow Medicaid funding for abortion with exceptions for cases of rape, incest, or to save the life of the mother.

1981–after the Medicaid bill passed with the exceptions, Biden voted to remove them.

1982–Biden helped lawmakers pass an amendment that would allow states to overturn Roe.

1983–he voted against the bill allowing states to overturn Roe.
–voted several times prohibiting workers from using health insurance for abortions, with the exception of saving the life of the mother.

1986–he told the Catholic Diocese Newspaper “abortion is wrong from the moment of conception” and encouraged the National Conference of Catholic Bishops to continue their fight against abortion. He said, “most effective pro-life groups are those who keep trying to push back the frontier.” Biden added, “I think medical science is moving the frontier back so that by the year 2000 we’re going to have more and more pressure, and rightfully so in my view, of moving back further and further the circumstances under which an abortion can be had.”

1994–Biden bragged in a letter to his constituents that he voted against federal funding of abortion “no fewer than 50 times” and it’s because “those of us who are opposed to abortions should not be compelled to pay for them.”

2006–he said, “I do not view abortion as a choice or a right.”

2007–in an appearance on Meet The Press, Biden said that he’s comfortable with his stance on abortion in supporting Roe because it “is as close as we’re going to get as a society” to a position that respects both religious beliefs and that “says there is a sliding scale relating to viability of a fetus.”
–in his book, Promises To Keep, Biden described his voting record on abortion as “middle of the road” and said he doesn’t think he has “a right to impose my view on the rest of society.” He underscored, “I refuse to impose my religious beliefs on other people.”

2008–In an interview with Texas Monthly, Biden said of abortion, “I think it’s always a tragedy, and I think that it should be rare and safe, and I think we should be focusing on how to limit the number of abortion.” He added, “There ought to be able to have a common ground and consensus as to do that.”
–yet when Biden was selected as Obama’s running mate, he received a 93 percent rating from the National Family Planning & Reproductive Health Association.

2012–during the Vice Presidential debate against Paul Ryan, Biden said that he was “personally opposed” to abortion, but didn’t have a reason for permitting women to exercise their “choice.”

Then there’s his flip-flopping on the Hyde Amendment, a provision that prohibits federal funds being used for abortions. Biden was a long-time supporter of the Hyde Amendment until he was shamed by fellow Democratic hopefuls, Senator Elizabeth Warren(D-MA) and former Texas Congressman, Beto O’Rourke.

2019Biden reversed his position on the Hyde Amendment saying“If I believe health care is a right, as I do, I can no longer support an amendment” that makes it more difficult for some women to access health care.”

Which brings us to his most radical position yet…

In a statement on Tuesday in response to the Supreme Court decision on June Medical Services v. Russo, the man who had once called himself a “pro-life Democrat” said:

Women’s health care rights have been under attack as states across the country have passed extreme laws restricting women’s constitutional right to choice under any circumstance. Today, the U.S. Supreme Court reaffirmed that states cannot put in place laws that unduly burden a women’s right to make her own health care decisions with her doctor.

But let’s be clear: Republicans in state legislatures will stop at nothing to get rid of Roe—and we have to be just as strong in our defense of it. They are trying to get these laws appealed to the Supreme Court in the hope that Trump’s justices will vote to overturn Roe v. Wade. It’s wrong. It’s pernicious. And, we have to stop it. As president, I will codify Roe v. Wade and my Justice Department will do everything in its power to stop the rash of state laws that so blatantly violate a woman’s protected, constitutional right to choose

So, now he will codify Roe and will allow abortion for “any circumstance”–which presumably means that this means right up to the moment of birth.

This isn’t a “moderate” position, although it’s increasing on the pro-abortion side.

We have seen how the Media(D) has given him a pass on things that would have been career-ending had Biden been a member of the GOP instead of the Democrats. He’s weathered a sexual assault claim, decades of soft bigotry, a slaveholder as an ancestor, calling KKK supporters “fine people” and anti-LGBT statements.

ClashDaily covered those here:

But the one shibboleth on the left that you just can’t touch ever is abortion.

Is Biden’s sudden full-throated endorsement of taxpayer-funded abortion-on-demand for any reason enough to give him a pass? Or will his former opposition and tepid endorsement still sink him?

Probably not.

After all, nearly 40% of Americans believe that Joe Biden has dementia and 61 percent think that he should address it.

But he’s still the presumptive Democratic nominee. Hell, the far-left segment of the party is so desperate for power that they’ll drag his corpse around if necessary. All they need is a figurehead that is perceived as a moderate and they will be his puppet masters.

All they need is a warm body to get them to power, and Joe is what they’ve got left.
